SAM offers Diploma courses in performance and production in contemporary music. Program options include:
Diploma in Music Performance (15 credit units, 4 months): Music Performance encompasses core courses and custom electives. Core courses equip student with necessary tools to become an all round musician. Core Courses include Ear-training, Contemporary Harmony, Reading Rhythms, Music Notation, Instrument Specific Labs, Technique Lab, Reading Lab, Performance Ensemble and Private lessons and Introduction to Carnatic Music and Konnakol (Carnatic Rythms).
The Custom Electives designed by respective faculty gives student an opportunity to understand different styles and techniques and apply these by listening, analyzing and playing.
Diploma in Audio Engineering and Music Technology (10 credit units, 4 months): Music Production and Technology Program introduces students to the uses, concepts, techniques, and terminology of computing through music applications. The student gains experience with hardware and software for music sequencing, synthesis, and music performance practice. Students learn entire production process, from acoustics, miking and recording to post production, audio mangling, mixing and mastering. The year long course is also designed as an introduction to music fundamentals, notation, and theory through music technology such as MIDI and digital recording.

A minimum of Xth pass (CBSE, ISC, or any other recognized English medium school).
Demonstrate the ability to play your principal instrument (assessed through video & online media submissions)
18 years or more of age by the date of commencement of program.

The student should be a major.(18 yrs +)
4.) Do I need a formal education in music to get in? How much experience do I need on my instrument?
Not necessarily, but a basic knowledge of your preferred instrument is required.

Yes, orientation is required for all new students. Orientation is an opportunity for new students to meet each other as well as staff, faculty members, and returning students. New students get acquainted with SAM. Workshops and presentations address topics such as safety, health, financial aid, and student life at SAM.
9.) Where is SAM located? How do I get from airport to SAM?
SAM is strategically situated on the pristine East Costal Road stretch, a 60-minute drive from south Chennai. The site is well connected. It is a 1.5-hour drive from Chennai International Airport, 2.5-hour drive from Chennai central Railway station.

10.) How do I arrange a campus tour?
Tours are conducted between 10 am and 6 pm each weekday by appointment with our Hospitality Representative (73581 02020). These events are scheduled throughout the year; contact the Hospitality department for details, dates and to make a reservation.
11.) Do I need to make an appointment to attend a tour? What will I see on the tour?
Yes appointment is must for a Campus tour. Visitors on the scheduled tour will see: recital hall, practice rooms, recording studios, classrooms and will be walked through the SAM campus and Housing Area.
12.) Do I have access to Housing or Dorms during Campus visit?
Yes we provide housing at our modern apartment complex which is chargeable. Please make prior booking with our Housing Coordinator (73581 02020).
13.) Do you have Housing or Dorms?
All students receive accommodation in our modern apartment complex, just a 5 minute walk from SAM.
14.) As a SAM student, am I required to live in the Housing area provided by SAM?
SAM is about 80kms from Chennai city and we offer full time residential course and hence a student is required to take up our housing accommodation.
15.) What other types of facilities and services are available in the residence apartment?
The rooms are spacious and fully furnished with a kitchen, refrigerator, air conditioning, wi-fi, and more. Housekeeping services are provided free of cost. The apartment complex also includes other facilities like a department store, dry cleaning and laundry services, an ATM and a 24 hour clinic.
16.) Are single rooms available for new students?
Yes we have three single rooms in each and every apartment. A student can choose either for a single room accommodation or double occupancy.
17.) Is the residence area a safe and secure place?
The residence area is 24×7 guarded by a security personnel who screens visitors at the building entrance. Also, a CCTV is employed at the entry of the residence area.
18.) What about meals for resident students?
The total cost of on-campus living includes a meal plan. We provide 3 meals a day including Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
19.) Can you suggest some items that I should take with me?
We provide bedsheet, pillows, linen in the campus to each and every student. Just carry your clothes, other sundry items and your instrument.
20.) What happens if I have a medical emergency?
If you have an emergency on the campus, you will be seen and treated by a medical professional immediately. If necessary, you may be referred to the nearest hospital emergency room.
21.) Can students stay in the residence apartment during college vacations ? Can they leave their belongings?
Yes students can stay in the residence apartment during college vacations which will be charged. Students can leave their belongings, they have to inform the housing coordinator (73581 02020) for the same.
22.) Are the staff members in the residence apartments ?
All the faculty and few staff members reside in the housing apartment at SAM.
