Esther Rojas

esther-rojasEsther Rojas is an accomplished and multi-faceted musician who plays the bass and is also an arranger, producer and musical director.

Hailing from Colombia, Esther began playing the violin at a young age of 10
and then her interest shifted to the bass, which she has mastered with an
authentic style. She studied for a Diploma in Jazz Performance Studies at the
Universidad Javeriana in Bogota while in Colombia and she played the bass
for the musical Cabaret, and collaborated with Amaxona and Yurgaki and was
the musical director and bassist with Amaxona for the Barranquilla Folk
Carnival and Cartegana Cultural Festival.

Esther was also the director and teacher of Bass Performance studies at the School of Musical Development in Bogota.

She was also selected as the tour musical director, arranger and bassist for popular artist Maria Mulata’s South Korean and Japan tour.

In 2011, Esther moved to Boston and enrolled into the Contemporary Writing and Production Bachelor’s Degree at the Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, her career as a musical director and producer took a leap as she was chosen to be the co-arranger, co-producer, musical director and bassist for Grammy winning Alejandro Sanz’s performance at the Latin Grammy Gala in Las Vegas. In addition to this, Esther was also selected as the arranger, musical director, and bassist for The Future of the Americas Summit hosted by the Clinton Foundation in 2014.

Esther plays a wide variety of musical styles including Colombian traditional music, World, Latin, Flamenco, Jazz, Fusion, Rock and Funk.

She has played the bass on a range of world music albums including Maria Mulata’s De cantos y vuelos (2011), Yurgaki (2009), Emergencia – Todas bala es perdida (2008) and Amaxona’s Carnival de Colores (2008)
