“The sky is the limit” – Bass player magazine
“Few have the raw power, deep pocket and melodic lyricism that Steve has” – guitar master Dave Fiuczynski
“Jenkins augments his considerable chops with a cool vision” – Jazziz magazine
Steve Jenkins has been involved with music since the age of three. His logic for wanting to play bass was simple; he just couldn’t decide between the drums or guitar. This partially explains where his eclectic, versatile approach to his instrument comes from. A recent review of Jenkins’s playing on David Fiuczynski’s 2008 release KIF express sums up his unique style in one sentence: “He belongs in the vanguard of formidable young bass soloists, but he separates from that pack by locking down every groove that comes his way.” In late 2004, Steve Jenkins released his first solo album–the critically acclaimed self-produced Mad Science.
Some of the musicians that Steve has recorded, toured, or performed with include Vernon Reid, John Scofield, John Medeski, Thomas Pridgen of The Mars Volta, Wayne Krantz, Hiromi, Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter, Kenwood Dennard, Keith Carlock, Graham Haynes, Screaming Headless Torsos, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Dean Bowman, Cindy Blackman, DJ Logic, Sam Kininger, Adam Deitch, Steve Hunt, John Blackwell, Federico Gonzalez Pena and many others.Steve is currently a member of Screaming Headless Torsos, David Fiuczynski’sKIF, and Vernon Reid’s solo project Masque. He endorses DR strings, Aguilar Amplification, and Chunk Systems effect pedals.
