Something Relevant

Something Relevant is a jam band formed in Mumbai in 2003. The Band consists of Aalok Padhye (Tabla and Percussion), Ryan Sadri (Saxophone), Luis Chico (Piano, Organ, FX), Tanmay Bhattacherjee (Guitar), Stuart DaCosta (Bass and Vocal) and Jehangir Jehangir (Drums).

Since 2003, STR has performed their brand of multi genre influenced rock in numerous venues in India, UK, Indonesia and Bangladesh and has gained them a faithful following with diverse audiences.

In March of 2009, the band was picked by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to perform at the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta and to tour Indonesia and South Korea. STR’s debut album ‘Feels Good 2B Live’ released in 2009 along with the music video for ‘City in a Situation’ received critical acclaim and tremendous support, both on the band’s Youtube channel, and on television, being aired nationally on VH1 and Zee Cafe.

Post release, the band toured extensively in 2010, both nationally and internationally, playing dates in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Goa, Bangalore, Delhi, as well as extended tours to Scotland in August 2010 for a month long ‘Feels Good 2B Live’ show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Indonesia in October 2010 and London England in November 2010, including a very special appearance at a UNICEF fundraiser for the victims of the floods in Pakistan and a gig at the prestigious Ronnie Scotts Bar in Soho.

With the exception of the keyboardist Luis Chico, all members of the band enrolled in the Six month Diploma Program at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in Aug 2011. STR members took full advantage of the exposure at SAM to effectively hone their skills further and have led from the front in letting the SAM community and the rest of the world know that they can manage a hectic tour schedule around the country and yet attend classes regularly and shine academically and in the process both feed in and radiate this collective positive energy. SAM recognized these students with the “the Student Ambassador of the Program” at their graduation ceremony.

They recently travelled to Dhaka, Bangladesh where they performed with the ‘Manila Symphony Orchestra’ from Phillipines for an event called ‘Rockophony’.
