Originally from New Orleans and now based out of New York, Sullivan Fortner Jr. has established himself as one of the most respected Pianists of his generation having performed with The Marsalis Family, Donald Harrison, Nicholas Payton, Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, Dave Liebman and several others. Sullivan has a Master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin Conservatory. Sullivan has been a member of Roy Hargrove Quintet for the last few years and tours around the world.
Sullivan won the prestigious Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in 2012 and used a part of his fellowship funding to study a 7-week program in Spring 2013, specially designed for him by President Prasanna at SAM with a focus on applications of Carnatic music in Jazz Performance and Composition. Sullivan has spoken quite highly about his SAM experience and the college is proud to have had a student of his accomplishment.
