Piano

Joel Lyssarides (born October 29, 1992) is a multi-award-winning Swedish jazz pianist and composer.

Lyssarides began taking piano lessons at the age of 4. Instead of going the traditional way with classical training he instead early on began to develop an interest in improvisation, inspired by his mother who played a bit of jazz piano at home. Early inspirations were pianists such as Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and Michel Petrucciani whose recordings were played regularly in the Lyssarides household.

At the age of 16 Lyssarides continued his piano studies at the renowned Södra Latin College of Music and was immediately after that accepted to the Royal College of Music, both located in his native Stockholm.

At the age of 21 Lyssarides became the first jazz pianist to receive the prestigious Jan Wallander-award where the first prize not just included a brand new Steinway-piano but also a rehearsal space in central Stockholm, all initiated by the Swedish bank Handelsbanken. He has since then received several scholarships from the Swedish Performing Rights Society, grants from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and in 2019 Lyssarides was named ”Musician of the Year ” by the Swedish radio P2.

Lyssarides has released 3 albums as a leader; ”Dreamer”, ”A Better Place” and ”Stay Now”. His compositions have been praised by critics all over the world and streamed over 60 million times on Spotify alone. Currently Lyssarides is signed to the German record label ACT.
